Forsyth Park has been captivating visitors for over 150 years.
Savannah's official Christmas tree, Frisbee games, and has a one-mile perimeter popular among outdoor enthusiasts. Sitting on the southern end of Savannah’s historic district, Forsyth Park is the perfect location for a stroll, a jog or picturesque photography. Each year many weddings are held Forsythe Park. There are large fields for games, a playground for children and even a fragrant garden for the blind. Large live oaks, heavy with Spanish moss, hang over Savannah’s premier showplace boulevard that runs through the center of Forsyth Park. But by far, the most famous attraction in Forsyth Park is the fountain. The cast iron fountain at the north end of the park was purchased from a catalogue and erected in 1858. It is patterned after the Place de la Concord in Paris and there is an exact replica of it in Cuzco, Peru. Every year on St. Patrick’s Day, the water in the fountain is dyed green in celebration.
The southern end of Forsythe Park is bordered by several of Savannah’s most cherished businesses. The Sentient Bean, a locally owned coffee shop, offers fair trade coffee and teas, organic homemade pastries, sandwiches and salads, as well as movie nights, poetry slams, and lecture series. A Brighter Day is located next door, and is Savannah’s first health food store. Local 11 Ten, a fine dining restaurant, is around the corner, and sits next to Savannah’s downtown American Legion Post.
